A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    De legendarische Rodney Strong was oorspronkelijk een danser voordat hij zijn carrière achter zich liet om wijn te maken in Sonoma County. Hij stichtte het landgoed in 1959 en speelde een belangrijke rol in de begindagen van de appellations Chalk Hill, Russian River Valley en Alexander Valley, die beroemd zijn om de productie van enkele van de beste wijnen van het graafschap. De familie Klein nam het beheer van het domein over in 1989 en tot op heden wordt het nog steeds door de familie gerund. De Kleins hebben de wijnmakerij grondig gemoderniseerd en zijn gepassioneerd door duurzame landbouwmethoden.

    Hun sublieme Pinot Noir wordt gemaakt van topkwaliteit fruit uit de Russian River Valley. Hier helpt het koelere klimaat om veel frisheid en elegantie te behouden, wat het perfecte tegenwicht vormt voor het zachte, rijke karakter van donker fruit.

    In de neus zijn er intense tonen van donkere pruimen, zwarte kersen en frambozen, terwijl het gehemelte een soepele aanzet, zachte tannines en een gemiddelde body biedt, samen met donkere bessen en aardse hints. Dit is de ideale partner voor eendengerechten zoals pekingeend of geroosterde wortelgroenteschotels, gebakken zalm en paddenstoelenrisotto's.
