    Syrah Wijnen

    Syrah-wijnen

    Syrah, of Shiraz zoals hij in Australië wordt genoemd, is een druif met een donkere schil die meestal krachtige, volle rode wijnen oplevert met weelderige tonen van braam, cassis, bosbes en zwarte peperkruiden. Syrah-wijnen hebben doorgaans een diepe, inktachtige kleur, hoge tannines en vrij hoge zuren. De meeste worden langdurig gerijpt in eikenhouten vaten en de beste Syrah-wijnen kunnen tientallen jaren worden bewaard.

    Voornaamste Syrah-wijnstreken

    De grootste Syrah-aanplant ter wereld vindt plaats in het Rhônedal in Frankrijk, waar de druif vaak wordt gemengd met Grenache en Mourvèdre. De meest prestigieuze appellations hier zijn Hermitage, Cornas, Cote-Rotie en St Joseph. Syrah-wijnen uit deze streek hebben meestal meer zuren en aardse, hartige tonen van leer, olijven en gerookt vlees. De andere belangrijke regio's zijn de Barossa Valley en McLaren Vale in Australië, waar Syrah-wijnen fruitiger zijn met veel rijke, rijpe donkere bessensmaken en veel kruiden.

    Top Syrah bij eten

    De beste Syrah-wijnen zijn groot, gedurfd en vol van smaak, dus het is raadzaam om ze te combineren met stevige gerechten. Goede opties zijn barbecueribs, gebraden lamsvlees, rijke winterstoofpotten, wildgerechten of zelfs hamburgers. Kruiden zoals herbes de provence werken bijzonder goed omdat ze de subtiele aroma's en aardse tonen van Syrah naar voren brengen. Syrah combineren met kaas is ook erg populair onder wijnliefhebbers, vooral met blauwe kazen als Roquefort of Gorgonzola.
