A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Het Michael David Wijnhuis is opgericht in 1984 en ligt in Lodi, waar het zijn wortels heeft sinds 1850. De oprichters zijn de broers Michael en David Phillips, de vijfde generatie van een familie van druiventelers. Het bedrijf produceert tegenwoordig zeer populaire wijnen van druiven die verbouwd zijn in de 80 hectare aan gecertificeerde biologische wijngaarden en andere druiven die afkomstig zijn van lokale wijnboeren.

    Rapture is de top Cabernet van dit Lodi wijnhuis en wordt geproduceerd in beperkte hoeveelheden en alleen in uitzonderlijke jaren, met kleine toevoegingen van Petite Sirah. De druiven worden geoogst in de eigen wijngaard van Michael Phillips en na de gisting rijpt de wijn in Franse eikenhouten vaten.

    De wijn heeft een intense kleur met diepe robijnrode tinten. De neus onthult tonen van bramen, pruimen en wilde bessen, vijgen en koffie, met wat hints van zoete specerijen en cederhout. In de mond is hij vol en sappig, rond en geconcentreerd met een lange en aangename afdronk die doet denken aan vanilletonen. Het is de klassieke wijn voor rood vlees. Hij past goed bij gegrilde steak, maar kan ook een heerlijke begeleider zijn van een stoofpotje van wild zwijn.
