Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Michael David Winery is uitgeroepen tot Wine Enthusiast's American Winery of the Year voor 2020, grotendeels dankzij hun inzet voor duurzaamheid en uitzonderlijk wijnmaken. De familie Phillips verbouwt al sinds de jaren 1860 groenten en fruit in Lodi, maar pas in 1984 maakten de broers Michael en David hun eerste wijnen in een schuur met behulp van een paar vaten en een oude pers. Sindsdien is het wijnhuis opgebloeid tot een landgoed van 800 hectare dat zijn eigen strenge duurzaamheidsregels heeft, bekend als de "Lodi Rules".

    Hun Earthquake wijnen zijn ontworpen om een schokgolf van smaak en veel kracht en concentratie te leveren. De druiven voor deze pittige Zin komen eigenlijk van een zeer oude Lodi wijngaard die werd aangeplant op hetzelfde moment als de verwoestende aardbeving van San Francisco in 1906. Michael Phillips vond het passend om de wijn naar deze historische gebeurtenis te noemen.

    Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij worden de druiven zorgvuldig gevinifieerd en rijpt de jonge wijn 22 maanden in Amerikaanse en Franse eiken vaten. Deze langere rijpingsperiode voegt rijke kruiden en geroosterde eikentonen toe aan het weelderige donkere fruit, wat nog meer kracht en complexiteit geeft aan het klassieke karakter van de oude Zinfandel. Robuust en krachtig, dit is een wijn om te combineren met stevig rood vlees en vegetarische gerechten, of om desgewenst nog een paar jaar te bewaren.
