    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Opgericht door een wijnmaker en een historicus, is El Enemigo een spannende onderneming die de regels wil doorbreken en nieuwe expressies wil creëren van 's werelds beste druivenrassen met een karakteristieke Argentijnse ziel. In 2009 besloten Catena Zapata's chef-wijnmaker Alejandro Vigil en historica Adrianna Catena, tevens de jongste dochter van Nicolas Catena, samen een wijn te maken die hun gedeelde liefde voor literatuur, filosofie en traditie zou vieren.

    Voor de Gran Enemigo combineert Alejandro aloude wijnmaaktechnieken uit Mendoza met zijn eigen ervaring. De druiven zijn afkomstig van hooggelegen wijngaarden in Tupungato die tot 1470 meter boven de zeespiegel liggen. Na de oogst worden de druiven gefermenteerd in Franse eikenhouten barriques en vervolgens 18 maanden gerijpt in speciale vaten van 3000 liter die Alejandro heeft gemodelleerd naar de vaten die een eeuw geleden in Mendoza werden gebruikt. Om deze historische vaten na te maken heeft hij Elzasser vaten geïmporteerd en vervolgens in Mendoza weer zorgvuldig in elkaar gezet.

    Het resultaat is een zeer bijzondere Bordeaux-stijl blend met een kenmerkende Argentijnse twist. De neus is opmerkelijk complex met hints van bittere cacao, zoethout en rijke donkere bessen, terwijl de eerste slok een royale volle body, soepele tannines en zeer lange afdronk laat zien met hints van zoete kruiden van de eikenhouten rijping. Een geweldige wijn om nu te drinken bij stevige rode vleesgerechten of om nog een tiental jaren in de kelder te leggen.
