    Ontstaan in 2008 en gelegen in de Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County, is The Hilt Estate eigendom van Stan Kroenke, die ook eigenaar is van de Engelse voetbalclub Arsenal FC. Het wijnteam onder leiding van Matt Dees produceert 3 soorten wijnen: Estate, The Guards en Single Vineyards. Sinds 2014 is het bedrijf overgestapt op een biologisch regime.

    De wijngaarden van het landgoed, beplant met Pinot Noir en Chardonnay, liggen in de zuidwestelijke hoek van Sta. Rita Hills, het koelste wijngebied in Californië. Hier genieten de wijnstokken van een zeeklimaat met oceaanwinden die zorgen voor gematigdere temperaturen en een langzame rijping van de druiven. Arme bodems stimuleren en beperken de kracht van de wijnstokken, wat resulteert in lage opbrengsten. De resulterende wijnen worden gekenmerkt door grote concentratie en complexiteit.

    De Chardonnay van Hilt Estate is een zuivere en levendige wijn, gekenmerkt door typische aroma's van vers fruit, citrus en witte bloemen, vergezeld van lichte geroosterde tonen en wat kruidige nuances. In de mond toont hij een fris en levendig karakter met een aangename zuurgraad en een subtiel romige textuur die zorgt voor een perfecte balans. Probeer hem bij sint-jakobsschelpen en krab of serveer hem goed gekoeld met een paar mooie hapjes als chic aperitief.
