Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Tot 8 jaar bewaren. Het merk Rupert & Rothschild werd in 1997 opgericht door Dr. Anton Rupert uit Zuid-Afrika en Baron Edmond de Rothschild uit Frankrijk. De twee kwamen samen om hun expertise te bundelen en een nieuw wijnhuis op te richten op wat toen een rustige Franschhoekse boerderij was aan de voet van de Simonsberg. In de loop der jaren is het landgoed doorgegeven aan de volgende generaties van de twee families, die trouw blijven aan de oorspronkelijke visie om uitzonderlijke Zuid-Afrikaanse wijnen te maken met aloude Franse wijnbouwtechnieken.

    Hun Classique cuvee bestaat voornamelijk uit Merlot samen met wat Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc en Petit Verdot die allemaal handmatig worden geoogst. Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij wordt het fruit apart gevinifieerd in roestvrijstalen tanks en vervolgens 16 maanden gerijpt in kleine Franse eikenhouten vaten.

    Op de neus domineren heerlijke rijpe pruimen, cassis en kersen, gevolgd door ondertonen van kruiden en houtrook van de eikenhouten rijping. In de mond is er een royale volle jongen, stevige tannines en een stevige kern van donker fruit die blijft hangen op de tong. Het robuuste smaakprofiel maakt dit een geweldige wijn om nog een paar jaar te bewaren of om nu van te genieten naast stevige rode vlees- en wildgerechten.
