    Het merk Martin Ray heeft tussen de jaren '40 en '70 minstens 30 jaar lang geschiedenis geschreven in de Californische wijnwereld, toen het werd beschouwd als een echte pionier van de wijnbouw in Santa Cruz. Hetzelfde merk werd in de jaren '90 gekocht en vernieuwd door Courtney Benham, die het hoofdkantoor naar Santa Rosa verhuisde. Vandaag de dag produceert het bedrijf, dat 5 hectare wijngaarden bezit en druiven betrekt van telers uit nabijgelegen regio's, een reeks uitstekende wijnen onder leiding van wijnmakers Leslie Mead Renaud en Raemy Paterson.

    Cabernet Sauvignon druiven zijn afkomstig van geselecteerde wijngaarden met een lage opbrengst in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County en Napa County. De balans van deze blend komt juist door de verschillende kenmerken van klimaat, bodem en hoogte tussen de verschillende wijngaarden. Na de oogst laat men de druiven ongeveer 2 weken gisten in aparte partijen. De afgewerkte wijn rijpt 12 maanden op Frans eikenhout.

    De wijn heeft een intense, diepe kleur en een intens fruitig aromatisch profiel. In de neus zijn er tonen van aalbessen en bramen, en vervolgens aroma's van kruiden en specerijen. In de mond is hij goed gestructureerd en stevig met zijdeachtige en perfect geïntegreerde tannines. De afdronk is lang en herinnert aan lichte tonen van kruiden. Het is een uitstekende keuze bij gegrild rood vlees.
