La Scolca was purchased by the great-grandfather of the current owner, Giorgio Soldati, in 1917-1919. Now in the hands of the fifth generation, La Scolca is known for its crisp and refreshing white wines made from the classic grape varieties of the Piemonte region. This exceptional sparkling wine is only made in the finest of vintages from the best quality Cortese grapes grown on the steep hills of Rovereto Superiore in Gavi.

The long, laborious winemaking process used for this wine includes traditional methods with the secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle. This is the same technique used to make Champagne and helps to add complexity and intensity to the finished wine. In total the wine is aged on the lees in the bottle for 10 years before it is released.

This extended ageing process adds delicious brioche, biscuit and fresh pastry notes to the flavour profile along with hints of toasted almonds, hazelnuts and cream. The first sip reveals a smooth mousse, rich stone fruit and citrus flavours, and a very long finish with hints of honeysuckle, white chocolate and spice. A unique Italian sparkling wine that makes a wonderful celebratory aperitif or companion for special family meals.
