Attilio Ghisolfi, gelegen in de gemeente Monforte d'Alba in Piemonte, is al vier generaties lang een familiebedrijf. Tot de jaren 80 was de productie divers en werd er slechts een kleine hoeveelheid gebottelde wijn geproduceerd. Eind jaren tachtig begon het bedrijf zich te richten op de productie van lokale wijnen en breidde het zijn eigen wijngaarden uit, waar Nebbiolo en Barbera de belangrijkste druivensoorten zijn.

De Nebbiolo-druiven voor deze klassieke Barolo zijn afkomstig van wijngaarden met een gemiddelde leeftijd van 20 jaar, gelegen in de gemeenten Monforte d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto en La Morra op mergelachtige, soms zanderige bodems. Na de oogst worden de druiven per perceel apart gevinifieerd om de kenmerken van hun specifieke terroirs te versterken. De wijnen rijpen vervolgens ongeveer 30 maanden in grote vaten voordat ze worden gemengd en gebotteld.

In het glas onthult de wijn een heldere robijnrode kleur. Het aromatische profiel is breed en intens, met tonen van framboos, wilde rode bessen en pruim, afgewisseld met bloemige hints van hibiscus en viooltje. In de mond is hij rijk en complex, krachtig en elegant, met stevige maar rijpe tannines en een gematigde, goed geïntegreerde zuurgraad. De afdronk is lang en doet denken aan tertiaire tonen van leer. Probeer hem eens bij beef Stroganoff of geroosterd hertenvlees.
