A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Domaine Skouras werd in 1986 opgericht in Pyrgela, Zuid-Griekenland, door oenoloog George Skouras, afgestudeerd in Dijon. Hij was de eerste wijnmaker in Griekenland die de inheemse Aghiorghitiko druif (ook wel San Giorgio genoemd) samenvoegde met Cabernet Sauvignon, waarmee hij uitstekende resultaten behaalde met de Megan Oenos wijn. Tegenwoordig produceert Domaine Skouras prestigieuze wijnen, zowel van hun eigen wijngaarden als van lokale producenten.

    De druiven voor deze wijn (95% Chardonnay en 5% Malagousia) komen van wijnstokken tussen 14 en 27, geplant op zandgronden in Corinthia en Argolida. De vinificatie vindt apart plaats. De Chardonnay laat men gedurende 6 uur op de schillen macereren en fermenteert dan deels in staal en deels in barriques.Malagousia macereert 24 uur, fermenteert in roestvrijstalen vaten en rijpt dan zes maanden 'sur lie'. De uiteindelijke blend rijpte drie maanden in de fles.

    Uit het hart van de Griekse Peloponnesos is deze Chardonnay, met de lichte toevoeging van de inheemse Malagousia druif, een zeer verfrissende wijn. In de neus zorgen de citrus, tropische en florale tonen voor een fantastisch boeket. De alcohol is perfect in balans en geeft de wijn diepte. De zuurgraad laat het gehemelte schoon en fris achter. De wijn is rond met een goede fruitconcentratie en een aangenaam aromatisch karakter. Hij past perfect bij zeebrasem, kreeft of kip geserveerd met een romige saus. Hij past ook goed bij vegetarische taarten.
