A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Op een heuvel met uitzicht op de Yakima Valley, net buiten de stad Zillah in de staat Washington, produceert Sheridan Vineyard enkele van de interessantste rode wijnen van de staat. Het bedrijf werd eind jaren negentig opgericht door Scott Greer en zijn zakenpartners Pat en Lanie Dineen, en nu beslaan de wijngaarden meer dan 100 hectare, beplant met Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot en Syrah. Hun eerste oogst dateert van 2000 en sindsdien hebben ze een uitstekende reputatie opgebouwd voor hun heerlijke wijnen.

    De Cabernet Sauvignon van Sheridan Vineyard is gemaakt van druiven uit de Yakima Valley AVA. Het is een rijke en krachtige rode wijn. In het glas heeft hij een diepe kleur met paarse tinten. De neus onthult intense aroma's van donker fruit, vooral pruimen, bramen en bosbessen, en bloemige tonen van lavendel en viooltjes. In de mond toont hij een sterk karakter en een robuuste body met een goed evenwicht tussen levendige zuren, zachte tannines en een goede concentratie van donker fruit. De afdronk is lang en aangenaam warm. Perfect bij rundvlees, de ideale wijn voor een barbecue, maar gaat ook goed samen met wild.
