Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Het prachtige landgoed Longview ligt in zacht glooiende heuvels vlakbij de Mt Lofty Ranges, op korte rijafstand van de stad Adelaide. Het wijnhuis wordt gerund door de broers Mark en Peter Saturno, die gespecialiseerd zijn in het maken van elegante wijnen van klassieke Italiaanse en Franse rassen die goed gedijen in de vallei. De broers planten hun zwarte druivenrassen op de noordelijke hellingen voor een optimale rijpheid, terwijl de witte druiven worden aangeplant op koelere hellingen op het zuiden.

    Devil's Elbow is genoemd naar een huiveringwekkend stuk weg niet ver van de wijngaard waar deze wijn zijn leven begint. Volgens Mark en Peter is diezelfde adrenalinestoot ook te ervaren in een glas van dit heerlijke rood. Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij worden de Cabernet Sauvignon druiven zorgvuldig gevinifieerd en vervolgens overgebracht naar Franse eikenhouten vaten voor 20 maanden rijping.

    Zwarte bessen, munt, kruidnagel en hints van houtrook kenmerken de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een levendige persoonlijkheid onthult met een volle body, een rijke en romige textuur en een zeer lange afdronk. Dankzij de stevige tannines en de goed gebouwde structuur is deze krachtige rode wijn ideaal om te drinken bij stevige stoofschotels van rundvlees, gegrild vlees of een eersteklas steak.
