Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Thistledown, opgericht in 2010, is een Zuid-Australisch wijnhuis dat zijn druiven betrekt van geselecteerde wijnmakers in de belangrijkste regio's van het gebied (Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills en Langhorne Creek). Oprichters en wijnmeesters Giles Cooke en Fergal Tynan werken samen met Peter Leske aan de productie van uitzonderlijke wijnen in kleine series die de grote terroirs van Australië tot uitdrukking brengen.

    De Grenache druiven worden met de hand geplukt van een wijngaard met wijnstokken die in 1952 zijn aangeplant en in de bush stijl op zandgrond worden geteeld. De wijn wordt gefermenteerd in cement en rijpt vervolgens ongeveer 10 maanden in eiken en cement voordat hij wordt gebotteld. Het resultaat is een extreem expressieve wijn die de kenmerken van de locatie van herkomst weerspiegelt.

    Thistledown Sands of Time Grenache is een krachtige en intense wijn, maar nooit weelderig met heerlijke aroma's van rijp rood fruit en bloedsinaasappel, bloemige tonen van sering en hints van rozenwater en viooltjes. In de mond is hij gestructureerd en consistent, sappig en levendig. Hij heeft een goed geïntegreerde tannine-ruggengraat en een soepele textuur. De afdronk is lang, elegant en smakelijk. Het is een absolute aanrader bij Aziatische eend en varkensvlees, of bij varkensvleestaco's.
