    Het intrigerende verhaal achter het beroemde Artadi landgoed in Rioja begon in 1985, toen een groep van 13 gepassioneerde lokale wijnmakers die eersteklas wijngaarden bezaten rond de stad Laguardia bij elkaar kwamen om een coöperatie te vormen. Al snel zag Juan Carlos López de Lacalle het ongelooflijke potentieel van het project. Hij kocht het landgoed en werkte onvermoeibaar om het tot een van de belangrijkste producenten in Rioja te maken.

    In 1996 besloot Juan Carlos dat het tijd was voor een nieuwe uitdaging voor Artadi, dus investeerde het wijnhuis in oude wijngaarden in Artazu, in het naburige Navarra. Deze onderschatte streek herbergt tegenwoordig enkele van Artadi's meest interessante wijnen, zoals deze single-variietal Santa Cruz de Altazu, gemaakt van Garnacha-druiven die biologisch geteeld worden op 600 meter hoogte.

    De neus is een explosie van sappig rood fruit zoals pruimen, kersen en aalbessen die zich voortzetten in de mond. Na verloop van tijd komen aroma's van geroosterde noten en zoete specerijen naar voren dankzij de 12 maanden rijping in nieuw Frans eikenhout. De volle, goed afgeronde body wordt in evenwicht gehouden door een kenmerkende frisheid en fijne, rijpe tannines die hem een uitstekende partner maken voor stevige rundvleesstoofpotten of varkenskarbonades.
