Gelegen in het noorden van Griekenland, in de wijnregio Naoussa, werd Kir-Yianni opgericht in 1997 en wordt tegenwoordig geleid door Stellios Boutaris. Het bedrijf, dat ongeveer 58 hectare wijngaarden bezit op de westelijke helling van de berg Vermion, tussen Naoussa en Amyndeon, produceert wijnen van uitstekende kwaliteit van inheemse Griekse wijnstokken, met bijzondere aandacht voor Xinomavro.

Xinomavro druiven worden geselecteerd en geoogst van kleine wijngaarden in de buurt van Agios Panteleimonas, in het Amyndeon wijngebied. De wijngaarden, geplant op arme en zanderige grond, zijn ongeveer 40 jaar oud. Het continentale klimaat van dit wijngebied ten noorden van Griekenland en de hoogte (ongeveer 600 meter) bevorderen de perfecte rijping van de druiven en de productie van wijnen met een sterke zure ruggengraat. De gisting vindt plaats bij een gecontroleerde temperatuur in roestvrijstalen tanks om de frisheid te behouden en te verbeteren.

De wijn heeft een levendige kleur met zalmroze tinten. Het aromatische profiel is bloemig en fruitig met tonen van steenfruit en wilde aardbeien en enkele hints van mediterrane kruiden. In de mond is hij sappig en fruitig, fris en rond met een lichte tanninetoets en een duidelijke en zeer aangename zuurgraad. De afdronk is lang en verfrissend. Probeer deze wijn bij verse Griekse salades en andere mediterrane recepten.
