    Het wijnhuis Bucella werd in 2002 in Napa Valley opgericht door Bill en Alicia Deem. Hun liefde voor wijn was al duidelijk sinds 1990, toen ze tijdens hun eerste afspraakje een fles Gaja deelden. Dit kleine wijnhuis staat nu alom bekend om zijn rijke en intense wijnen van Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot en Rhône rassen.

    De wijn bestaat uit 97% Merlot en 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. De druiven komen van twee wijngaarden in de heuvels van de beroemde Hyde Vineyard, in Carneros, waar de opbrengsten laag zijn, meestal minder dan twee ton per hectare. De wijn rijpt 18 maanden in 70% nieuw Frans eikenhout. Het is een jonge, frisse en toegankelijke wijn, ondanks de typische rijkdom en rondheid van Merlot.

    Buccella Merlot is fris en levendig en heeft een diepe en boeiende kleur. De neus wordt gedomineerd door verleidelijke aroma's van zwarte kardemom, nootmuskaat, pruimen en bramen, samen met paarse bloemen als viooltjes en lavendel, en zoete specerijen. In de mond is hij zacht maar krachtig, hartig en gestructureerd, met smaken van frambozenjam en pruimenconcentraat. Op het einde blijft hij lang hangen met een intense smaak van rood fruit. Probeer hem bij lamsvlees, rundvlees of gerijpte Pecorino kaas.
