Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Koerner en Joan Rombauer verhuisden in 1972 van Escondido in Zuid-Californië naar Napa Valley, hoewel ze pas in 1980 hun eerste Rombauer wijn maakten. Rombauers eersteklas wijnmakerij is in de loop der jaren ook gebruikt door iedereen, van Duckhorn en Dominus tot Spottswoode. Tegenwoordig wordt het gerund door de tweede en derde generatie van de Rombauer familie, die zoveel mogelijk duurzame praktijken toepassen om het land in perfecte conditie te houden voor de toekomst.

    Deze weelderige Merlot is gemaakt met een scheutje Cabernet Sauvignon en Petit Verdot en heeft 18 maanden gerijpt in Franse en Amerikaanse eikenhouten vaten. Het fruit is afkomstig van eigen wijngaarden en partnertelers uit de koele Carneros regio, waar de verkoelende zeebries van de nabijgelegen Stille Oceaan helpt om veel frisheid en aroma's te behouden.

    Rijpe pruimen, cassis, zwarte kersen en hints van cederhout en tabaksblad domineren in de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een medium body, zijdezachte textuur en zachte tannines onthult. Dit smaakprofiel maakt hem zelfs jong toegankelijk, hoewel hij desgewenst nog een tiental jaren kan worden bewaard.
