A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Het verhaal van Stark Conde gaat terug tot 1989 toen Hans & Midori Schroder de boerderij Oude Nektar in de dramatische Jonkershoekvallei in Stellenbosch kochten en begonnen met het verbouwen van druiven van topkwaliteit. Een decennium later, in 1998, kreeg het echtpaar gezelschap van hun dochter en schoonzoon, Marie en José, en werd het wijnhuis Stark Conde geboren.

    De prachtige ligging in de ruige Jonkershoek Vallei helpt de wijnen een uniek karakter en smaakprofiel te geven dankzij de grote hoogteverschillen in hun wijngaarden. De laagste percelen liggen op 150 meter en de hoogste op 600 meter boven zeeniveau.

    De Field Blend van de familie is een complexe samenstelling van Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, Verdelho en Viognier die allemaal afkomstig zijn van één enkel wijngaardperceel, genaamd Jan Lui's Field, naar een vroegere eigenaar. De druiven worden allemaal samen geoogst en vergist als een echte field blend, waarbij 90% van de wijn wordt vergist en 8 maanden rijpt in eikenhouten vaten. Het resultaat is een weelderige, volle witte wijn met verleidelijke tonen van tropisch en citrusfruit, een romige textuur en hints van vanille en kruiden van de eikenhouten rijping.
