A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Domaine Raymond Usseglio is een landgoed dat zich uitstrekt over meerdere generaties, gelegen in de zuidelijke Rhônevallei. De wijngaarden van de wijnmakerij bestaan uit 5 hectare in de Côtes du Rhône appellatie en 18 hectare in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

    Stéphan Usseglio is de kleinzoon van Francis, die de voorganger van het domein in 1948 oprichtte. Onder de voorbeeldige leiding van Stéphane produceert het domein een fantastische reeks Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuveés, 4 rode en 3 witte. Dit is hun klassieke Châteauneuf-du-Pape expressie, een krachtige rode blend met Grenache als speerpunt, ondersteund door Cinsault, Mourvedre, Counoise en Syrah.

    De kleur is diep granaat in het glas, met hints van violet. De neus bevat donkere bosvruchten, tabak en subtiele toetsen van zwart zoethout. De blend wordt volledig gefermenteerd en gerijpt in betonnen vaten om een zo puur mogelijke expressie van fruit te verkrijgen. In de mond is hij weelderig en de smaken van pruim en kers worden ondersteund door chocolade en rijpe tannines. Hij heeft een perceptie van zoetheid, die blijft hangen tijdens de lange afdronk. Perfect voor wie op zoek is naar een klassieke smaak van Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Hij past goed bij rijke, vlezige hoofdgerechten, zoals lamskoteletjes, cassoulet of een stevige paddenstoelenschotel.
