    Bilancia is een Nieuw-Zeelands wijnhuis gevestigd in Hawke's Bay, een prachtig uitzicht op de uitgestrekte Stille Oceaan. Het werd in 1997 opgericht door een wijnmakend echtpaar, Warren Gibson en Lorraine Leheny, die een perceel van 6 hectare met de naam "La Collina" op Roys Hill kochten. De wijnmakerij blijft een kleine, op kwaliteit gerichte onderneming, waarbij Lorraine en Warren de druiven betrekken van hun eigen wijngaarden en van telers in Gimblett Road Vineyards, Glencoe Station en Blackbridge Estate.

    Deze wijn is een door Syrah gedomineerde blend, met 2% Viognier. Ongeveer een vijfde van de druiven komt van Warren en Lorraine's eigen "La Collina" wijngaard, terwijl de rest afkomstig is van Gimblett Gravels - op een steenworp afstand van Roys Hill.

    De Bilancia Syrah is een uitbundige wijn, overladen met geuren van bramen, zwarte bessen, zwarte peper en pruimen. Het gehemelte is droog en omhullend, met een rijke binnenkant van zwart fruit, framboos en bosbes. Je ontdekt ook tonen van gedroogde kruiden, eikenhout en duidelijke hints van opwekkende flora. Hij is verrukkelijk en gemakkelijk toegankelijk zoals hij nu is, maar zal ongetwijfeld baat hebben bij wat verdere rijping in de kelder. Overweeg deze Syrah-blend te combineren met een stoofschotel van rundvlees, gegrilde groenten of een gegrilde tonijnsteak.
