Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een van de beroemdste namen van Napa, Silverado Vineyards, ligt in het legendarische Stags Leap District waar veel van de beste producenten van Californië wonen. Het landgoed werd in 1981 opgericht door Ron en Diane Miller en Diane's moeder Lillian Disney, die het landgoed vernoemde naar een nabijgelegen verlaten zilvermijnstadje. Tegenwoordig wordt het landgoed gerund door de derde en vierde generatie van de familie, die zich blijven specialiseren in sensationele Cabernet Sauvignon, verbouwd op een van de mooiste terroirs van de Valley.

    Hun Estate Grown Cabernet werd onlangs door Wine & Spirits magazine verkozen tot een van de beste Cabernets en krijgt regelmatig 90+ punten van Wine Enthusiast en James Suckling. Het fruit is afkomstig van Silverado's wijngaarden in het Stag's Leap District en Coombsville, met een kleine hoeveelheid Merlot en Cabernet Franc erbij om complexiteit en karakter toe te voegen. In de wijnmakerij wordt het fruit zorgvuldig gesorteerd en gevinifieerd, waarna de jonge wijn 18 maanden rijpt in 48% nieuwe Franse eiken vaten.

    Deze lange rijping geeft glans en raffinement aan deze uiterst rijpe Cabernet, met subtiele tonen van sigarenkistjes en houtrook als aanvulling op de weelderige tonen van donkere bessen en hints van zoete tabak. Stevige tannines en een robuuste, volle body helpen deze wijn om de komende tien jaar prachtig te rijpen, hoewel hij nu ook kan worden gedronken bij een stevige stoofpot van rundvlees, pasta met een rijke ragu-saus of zelfs gebarbecued vlees.
