Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Craggy Range wordt tegenwoordig beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste boetiekwijnhuizen van Nieuw-Zeeland en werd in de jaren negentig opgericht door de Australische zakenman Terry Peabody en Master of Wine Steve Smith. Destijds was een groot deel van het Gimblett Gravels gebied in handen van cementbedrijven die van plan waren er mijnbouw te bedrijven, maar dankzij het doorzettingsvermogen van lokale wijnmakerijen wordt de regio tegenwoordig erkend om zijn uitzonderlijke wijnbouwterroir.

    "Te Kahu" betekent "de mantel" in de inheemse Maori-taal en verwijst naar de mist die volgens de mythologie de mantel was waarmee Hinerakau het lichaam van haar geliefde, het opperhoofd Te Mata, bedekte. Het fruit voor deze wijn komt van de landgoedwijngaarden van Craggy Range in Gimblett Gravels, waar het warme, droge microklimaat en de steenachtige bodem bijdragen aan de productie van levendige, intens smakende wijnen met veel karakter.

    Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij wordt het fruit gefermenteerd in roestvrijstalen tanks en gerijpt in eikenhouten vaten voordat het wordt gebotteld. Weelderige tonen van donkere bessen, pruimen en kersen bepalen de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een zachte medium body onthult, soepele tannines en rijke donkere fruitsmaken die op de tong blijven hangen. Een heerlijke, gemakkelijke rode wijn bij gestoofd lamsvlees, pastagerechten op basis van tomaten of een royaal bord vleeswaren.
