    Johan Reyneke begon zijn eigen wijnen te maken nadat hij in 1998 het boerenbedrijf van zijn moeder had overgenomen. Het landgoed van 20 hectare is ideaal gelegen voor het maken van premium wijn, dankzij de ligging dicht bij de stad Stellenbosch met uitzicht op False Bay en de nabijgelegen bergen. Johan werkt zoveel mogelijk in harmonie met de natuur; naast biologische en biodynamische landbouwmethoden gebruikt hij de eenden van het landgoed om de wijngaarden te bemesten.

    Cornerstone is Johan's interpretatie van de klassieke Bordeaux-stijl blend. Cabernet Sauvignon is hier het dominante ras, samen met een gezonde dosis Cabernet Franc en een druppel Merlot. Deze wijn heeft een speciale betekenis voor het landgoed omdat de opbrengst van de verkoop ervan volledig ten goede komt aan de ondersteuning van landarbeiders en hun gezinnen op het gebied van onderwijs, huisvesting en pensioen.

    Om een wijn van topkwaliteit te maken worden de druiven zorgvuldig met de hand geoogst en gesorteerd vóór de gisting in betonnen tanks. De jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 18 maanden in Franse eikenhouten vaten. Dit levert een intense, evenwichtige Bordeaux blend op met een kenmerkende Zuid-Afrikaanse stijl. De neus wordt gedomineerd door rijpe pruimen, donkere bessen en hints van zwarte peperkorrels, terwijl de eerste slok een kruidige kern onthult met weelderig fruit, stevige tannines en een lange afdronk.
