A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Het Domaine Michelot is al zes generaties in handen van de familie Michelot en wordt momenteel geleid door de jonge wijnmaker Nicholas Mefre, die in 2009 op 23-jarige leeftijd het stokje overnam van zijn vader. Het domaine is traditioneel in zijn aanpak, maar de laatste jaren is Nicholas gaan experimenteren met het vinifiëren van een kleine hoeveelheid fruit van gewaardeerde crus in betonnen eieren. De invloed van eikenhout wordt minimaal gehouden, met slechts 20% nieuw eikenhout voor de overige percelen die in vaten rijpen.

    Deze prachtige Meursault komt uit de "lieu-dit" van Les Narvaux. Het perceel ligt op een helling op 300 meter hoogte boven de beroemde Genevrières premier cru wijngaarden. Hierdoor krijgt de wijn een kenmerkende elegantie en frisheid, met extra diepte en complexiteit door de vinificatie in een combinatie van grote vaten en kleinere barriques.

    Op de neus domineren betoverende hints van amandelbloesem, rijpe perzik en geroosterde amandelen, terwijl de eerste slok een briljante zuurgraad onthult, een goed afgeronde textuur en een stevige kern van boomgaardfruitaroma's die op de tong blijven hangen. De afdronk is verfijnd en gracieus, met hints van zingy citroen en tongstrelende frisheid die fungeert als een geweldige reiniger voor het gehemelte. Laat hem nog een paar jaar rijpen of geniet nu van gebraden kip, zalm of romige pastagerechten.
