    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Garganega is misschien het meest bekend als de druif voor de frisse witte Soave wijnen uit Veneto, maar de streek produceert ook een sappig zoete dessertwijn, Passito Garganega, gemaakt van halfgedroogde druiven. Volgens de plaatselijke wijnbouwtradities worden de druiven laat geoogst en vier maanden in ondiepe kratten te drogen gelegd tot ze rozijnen beginnen te worden. De most wordt vervolgens vergist in eikenhouten vaten en de jonge wijn rijpt 24 maanden op de droesem, gevolgd door 6 maanden rijping op de fles.

    Dit uitgebreide rijpingsproces levert een complexe en gelaagde zoete wijn op die verleidelijke aroma's van rijpe perziken, kamperfoelie, karamel en vers gebak verspreidt. De eerste slok onthult een rijke zoetheid, gedurfde smaken van mango, honing en geroosterde hazelnoot, en een zeer lange afdronk.

    De familie Brunelli bewerkt het land rond het dorp San Pietro in het hart van Valpolicella al sinds de 18e eeuw. Ze werkten oorspronkelijk op het landgoed dat hun naam draagt, voordat ze uiteindelijk genoeg geld spaarden om hier kleine stukjes land te kopen en hun eigen wijn te gaan maken. Tegenwoordig is Alberto Brunelli de wijnmaker van het landgoed en wordt hij bijgestaan door zijn ouders, Luigi en Luciana, die ook deel uitmaken van het familiebedrijf.
