UPS was verschrikkelijk. Eerst gaven ze de verwachte bezorgdatum door, en daarna lieten ze mijn vrouw de hele dag wachten om uiteindelijk zonder enige waarschuwing (!) niet te bezorgen. Pas de volgende ochtend lieten ze weten dat de verwachte bezorgdatum was gewijzigd (!) en deze keer lukte het wel. Een hele dag verspild, geen mogelijkheid om de koerier te bellen. Vreselijke ervaring! Arrogante klootzakken.

Witte wijnen

Witte wijnen worden gemaakt door de druiven voorzichtig te persen om alleen het sap eruit te halen. Door het contact tussen de schil en het sap te minimaliseren ontstaat een lichte en frisse wijn. Rijkere, complexere witte wijnen worden meestal gemaakt door het sap te vergisten in eikenhouten vaten of door de wijn te laten rijpen op de droesem of gistcellen. Afhankelijk van de gewenste stijl worden witte wijnen jong gebotteld of gerijpt in eikenhouten vaten of in neutrale roestvrijstalen tanks. Droge witte wijnen passen bijzonder goed bij verse zeevruchten, gegrilde vis, salades, pittige Aziatische curry's en kipgerechten.

Belangrijke witte wijngebieden

De bekendste witte wijngebieden zijn Bourgondië in Frankrijk, bekend om zijn elegante Chardonnay, en Bordeaux, dat prachtige witte blends produceert. Witte druivenrassen groeien over het algemeen beter in koelere streken. Daarom zijn Duitsland, Oostenrijk en de Elzas het meest bekend om hun knapperige Riesling en Gruner Veltliner. Californië staat bekend om zijn krachtige, eiken Chardonnay, terwijl Nieuw-Zeeland bekend staat om zijn Sauvignon Blanc met zijn karakteristieke kruisbessensmaak.

Variëteiten van witte wijndruiven

Witte wijn wordt meestal gemaakt van witte druiven, hoewel het ook mogelijk is om zwarte druiven te persen om er een helder sap uit te halen dat vervolgens tot witte wijn kan worden verwerkt. De belangrijkste internationale witte wijnsoorten zijn Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Grigio en Riesling. Er zijn ook veel populaire inheemse druiven voor witte wijn, zoals Albarino of Alvarinho in Spanje en Portugal, Furmint in Hongarije, en Trebbiano en Fiano in Italië.

De belangrijkste internationale rassen zijn Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Grigio en Riesling.
