Witte blends

Terwijl rode blends wereldwijd populair zijn, blijven witte wijnblends onder de radar van veel wijndrinkers. Dat is jammer, want sommige van de beste witte wijnen, zoals witte Bordeaux, witte Rioja en witte wijnen uit de Rhônevallei, zijn eigenlijk mengsels van verschillende druivenrassen.

De belangrijkste regio's voor witte blends

De wijngebieden bij uitstek voor witte blends zijn de Graves-regio in Bordeaux, waar Sauvignon Blanc traditioneel wordt gecombineerd met Semillon en een kleine hoeveelheid Muscadelle of Sauvignon Gris. Andere belangrijke Franse witte blends zijn de witte wijnen uit de zuidelijke Rhône-streek, waarin meestal Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne, Clairette en Picpoul Blanc worden gecombineerd. In Spanje kan witte Rioja worden gemaakt van zeven toegestane druivensoorten, waaronder Viura, Malvasia, Verdejo en Garnacha Blanca.

Paren voor witte wijnblends

De beste witte wijnblends worden gemaakt in verschillende stijlen en bieden voor elk wat wils. Lichtere witte blends met hogere zuren, zoals sommige witte Bordeaux-wijnen uit Graves, passen goed bij verse zeevruchten, gegrilde vis en romige kazen. Zwaardere witte blends, zoals die uit Rioja, passen goed bij gebraden kip, rijke pastagerechten of risotto's. Er zijn ook mengsels van zoete witte wijnen, zoals Sauternes-wijnen uit Bordeaux, die goed passen bij fruitdesserts of blauwe kazen.
