A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Gelegen in de Marlborough wijnregio van het Zuidereiland van Nieuw-Zeeland, is Te Whare Ra een klein familiebedrijf dat sinds 2003 in handen is van wijnmakers Anna en Jason Flowerday. De wijngaard van het bedrijf beslaat 11 hectare en herbergt enkele van de oudste wijnstokken in de regio, aangeplant in 1979.

    De Sauvignon Blanc druiven komen van gecertificeerde biologische wijngaarden met wijnstokken geplant in 1979 in Renwick in de Wairau Valley en een blend van de wijngaarden uit het koelere Awatere Valley gebied. De opbrengsten zijn laag en de wijn rijpt 9 maanden in oude eikenhouten vaten om de neutraliteit van het hout te waarborgen en textuur toe te voegen. Het resultaat is een stijl van Sauvignon Blanc die meer doet denken aan de Franse wijnen uit de Loirevallei dan aan de tropische en uitbundige Nieuw-Zeelandse Sauvignons.

    In de neus onthult de wijn een breed en complex aromatisch profiel met citrustonen van citroen en limoen, hints van basilicum en bloemen, vlierbloesem en kruisbes. In de mond is hij fris en subtiel, verfijnd en zacht, sappig en zeer evenwichtig. Hij onthult een duidelijke zuurgraad en een uitstekende mineraliteit. Het is een wijn met een goede complexiteit, een lange en knapperige afdronk en het potentieel om nog enkele jaren te evolueren in de kelder. Perfect bij vis, schelpdieren en alle bereidingen op basis van asperges.
