This gorgeous Spanish red blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot is named after the distinctive “caliza” or “limestone” soils at the Dominio de Valdepusa estate which give this wine its elegant personality and unique flavour profile with delicate hints of minerality. On the nose there are succulent aromas of crushed blackberries and cassis which develop on the palate into rich wild berry flavours and undertones of cinnamon and dark chocolate.

Round and full in the mouth with a pleasantly refreshing acidity, the Marques de Grinon Caliza is an excellent wine to pair with robust dishes thanks to the intense fruit flavours and well-developed structure. Pour yourself a generous glass alongside a prime sirloin steak, ribs, a rich terrine or simply a platter of jamon serrano for a real taste of Spain.

Marques de Grinon sources all of the grapes for this wine from a single vineyard named Dominio de Valdepusa in Castilla-La Mancha which has been recognised as one of the finest in Spain under the D.O. de Pago appellation system. Here the extreme continental climate and 325 metres of elevation help ensure the vines get plenty of sunshine during the summer, but they also benefit from cooler nights which helps to retain good acidity levels in the grapes. To ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in the best possible condition, Marques de Grinon harvest by hand and following vinification the wine is aged in new and used French oak barrels for 10 months to add subtle toasty notes.
