A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    Gesteld in een uithoek van Waiheke Island met een proeflokaal direct aan het strand, is Man O' War een van Nieuw-Zeelands meest pittoreske wijnmakerijen. De eerste wijnstokken werden geplant in 1993 en vandaag de dag heeft het landgoed zo'n 150 hectare, verdeeld over 76 unieke locaties, waardoor ze toegang hebben tot een breed scala aan terroirs.

    De druiven voor deze wijn zijn afkomstig van vier uitstekende Syrah-wijngaarden op steile hellingen, die laat in het seizoen, wanneer het fruit optimaal rijp is, met de hand worden geoogst. Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij laat men het fruit natuurlijk gisten met wilde gisten en laat men het 35 dagen macereren op de schil. Na 18 maanden rijping in eikenhouten vaten rijpt de jonge wijn nog eens 3 maanden in roestvrijstalen tanks voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    De lange rijping en de minimale interventie bij het wijnmaken zorgen voor een karaktervolle en raadselachtige Syrah die barst van de weelderige aroma's van donker fruit en toetsen van gedroogde kruiden, leer en specerijen. De stevige tannines, volle body en lange afdronk maken dit een geweldige cuvee om in de kelder te bewaren of om nu van te genieten naast stevige rode vleesgerechten.
