    L'Aventure werd in 1998 opgericht door Stephan Asseo en is een Californisch wijnhuis ten zuidwesten van Paso Robles. Het bedrijf, dat ongeveer 51 hectare aan wijngaarden bezit, verbouwt Bordeaux en Rhône druivenrassen zoals Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot en Mourvèdre.

    Optimus is de perfecte wijn om de productie van L'Aventure te leren kennen. Het is een gemakkelijk toegankelijke wijn, maar onthult een goed bewaarpotentieel. De blend bevat een meerderheid van Syrah, ondersteund door Cabernet Sauvignon en kleine toevoegingen van Petit Verdot. Na de gisting rijpt de afgewerkte wijn 14 maanden in Frans eiken (65% nieuw).

    De wijn heeft een dichte en diepe kleur met donkere robijnrode tinten en paarse nuances. In de neus onthult hij een intens en breed aromatisch profiel met tonen van gedroogde bloemen en kersen, bloedsinaasappel en wilde kruiden, en vervolgens grafiet, tabak en rokerige hints. In de mond is hij krachtig, sappig en gestructureerd. Hij heeft een medium volle body en een sterke, verkwikkende zuurgraad. De tannines zijn stevig en korrelig, maar goed geïntegreerd. De afdronk is lang en geconcentreerd. Hij is uitstekend bij gegrild vlees en een absolute aanrader bij gerookte varkensribbetjes.
