    Legendarische Amerikaanse wijnmaker Dave Phinney, die vooral bekend is van zijn iconische The Prisoner en Orin Swift wijnen, sloeg de handen ineen met veteranen uit de sector Kevin Fox, Darryl Browman en Bryan Sandoli om The Crane Assembly op te richten in St Helena. Het landgoed is gevestigd rond een van Napa's oudste wijngaarden, die in 1885 door George Beldon Crane werd aangeplant en waar nog steeds 4 hectare van die oorspronkelijke oude Zinfandel wijnstokken staan.

    De Disciples-botteling is gemaakt van hoofdzakelijk Zinfandeldruiven, aangevuld met kleinere hoeveelheden Charbono-, Grenache- en Petite Sirah-druiven. De druiven voor deze wijn zijn afkomstig van de Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford en de Milat Vineyard in St. Helena, die Dave beschouwt als "discipelen" van de eerbiedwaardige Crane wijnstokken.

    Op de neus zijn er royale aroma's van aardbeien, donkere pruimen, vanille en hints van een sigarenkistje, terwijl het gehemelte rijpe kersen, zoethout, donkere chocolade en bakkruiden biedt. Een glad, fluweelachtig mondgevoel en zachte tannines zijn vanaf de eerste slok aanwezig, samen met een volle body en een lange warme afdronk. Deze krachtige rode wijn is een ideale partner voor gerechten met rood vlees, zoals biefstuk, taco's van rundvlees of een stevige winterse stoofpot.
