Tucked away in northeastern Italy, Friuli is known for its fresh and elegant white wines so it is no surprise that the classic Bordeaux white variety Sauvignon Blanc has found a home here. On the Schiopetto estate the variety is planted on hillside plots which helps to ensure maximum exposure to sunshine while retaining sufficient freshness and balance. The grape must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks and matured on the fine lees for 8 months.

On the nose there are welcoming notes of bright lemon zest, grapefruit, tropical fruit, and cut grass, while the first sip offers a bright streak of acidity, medium body, and rich, creamy texture. The generous guava, pineapple, and mango flavours make this an excellent partner for sushi or tangy Asian salads as well as a variety of fish and chicken dishes.

Schiopetto was one of the true pioneers for Friuli white wines thanks to the work of Mario Schiopetto who began rigorously applying modern winemaking techniques to his estate’s top quality grapes in the 1960s and 1970s. Mario’s legacy is today carried forward by estate’s new owner, Emilio Rotolo, also owns the nearby winery Volpe Pasini.
