    Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Laat de wijn 3 tot 5 jaar rijpen. De wijn heeft baat bij decanteren.

    Het wijnhuis San Giovenale, waarvan de naam is afgeleid van een Etruskische necropolis in de buurt van het bedrijf, ligt in het noorden van Lazio, op 400 m boven zeeniveau, een unieke plek die pre-industriële wijnbouw mogelijk maakt, mede dankzij het droge klimaat dat wijnstokziekten voorkomt. Het landgoed is opgericht in 2006, door Emanuele Pangrazi, die samen met zijn oenoloog Marco Casolanetti leven gaf aan het meest ambitieuze en technologisch geavanceerde project in de provincie Viterbo.

    De nadruk ligt op enkele typisch Franse rassen: Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Carignan. De teelt is intensief, met gemiddeld 11.000 stekken per hectare en lage opbrengsten, om uit de druiven de sterke aroma's en smaken te halen die typisch zijn voor dit gebied.

    De Rosso di San Giovenale is de assemblage van twee jaargangen Habemus (het vlaggenschip van de wijnmakerij), een blend van Grenache, Syrah en Carignan. In het glas toont hij de heftige paarse tinten van de Syrah. De neus is diep en intens, een triomf van zoete specerijen, zwarte peper en anijs, en fruitige tonen van pruimen, bessen en frambozen. Een zachte balsamico en een hint van aromatische kruiden maken het geurpalet compleet. De mond is dicht maar levendig en dynamisch dankzij een verrassende zuurgraad die in evenwicht is met de verfijnde tannines. Hij is warm en complex met een lange afdronk van kruiden en balsamico's.

    Laat hem een half uur ademen. Geniet ervan bij gegrild rood vlees.
