UPS was verschrikkelijk. Eerst gaven ze de verwachte bezorgdatum door, en daarna lieten ze mijn vrouw de hele dag wachten, om uiteindelijk zonder enige waarschuwing (!) niet te bezorgen. Pas de volgende ochtend lieten ze weten dat de verwachte bezorgdatum was gewijzigd (!) en deze keer ging het wel goed. De hele dag verspild, geen mogelijkheid om de koerier te bellen. Vreselijke ervaring! Arrogante klootzakken.

Rode wijnen

Rode wijnen

Rode wijnen worden gemaakt door het sap te laten macereren op de schillen, waardoor veel intense aroma's, kleurstoffen en tannines vrijkomen. Daarom hebben rode wijnen meestal een meer uitgesproken smaak en kleur dan veel witte wijnen. Het is gebruikelijk om rode wijnen langdurig in eikenhouten vaten te laten rijpen om de tannines te verzachten en complexiteit en glans toe te voegen. Je kunt rode wijnen kopen en ze combineren met vleeswaren, gegrild of gebarbecued rood vlees en stevige pastagerechten op basis van tomaten.

Belangrijke rode wijnstreken

Beroemde rode wijnstreken zijn onder meer Bourgondië in Frankrijk, bekend om zijn elegante Pinot Noir, en Bordeaux, dat prestigieuze rode blends produceert die tientallen jaren oud kunnen worden. Andere grote rode wijngebieden zijn Frankrijks Rhônedal, Californiës Napa Valley, Australiës Barossa Valley, Spanje's Rioja en Ribera del Duero, en Italië's Barolo en Toscane, waar je de beste rode wijn kunt kopen.

Variëteiten van rode wijndruiven

Rode wijnen worden voornamelijk gemaakt van zwarte druiven, hoewel sommige een kleine hoeveelheid witte druiven bevatten. Zo bevatten Châteauneuf-du-Pape rode wijnen vaak Grenache blanc of Roussanne. De bekendste rassen voor rode wijnen zijn Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Sangiovese en Tempranillo. Er zijn ook honderden minder bekende inheemse druivenrassen, zoals Blaufrankisch uit Midden-Europa, Touriga Nacional uit Portugal en Dolcetto uit Italië.
