Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    De allereerste wijnmakerij in Noord-Amerika die eigendom is van een inheemse gemeenschap, Nk'Mip Cellars wijnmakerij betekent "bodemland" in de taal van de Okanagan inheemse bevolking, omdat het aan de zuidkant van het Osoyoos Indianenreservaat ligt. Hier, waarnaar vaak wordt verwezen als het noordelijke uiteinde van de Sonorawoestijn, zijn de omstandigheden droog met heldere zomerdagen die helpen bij het maken van rode wijnen met een rijke smaak.

    "Qwam Qwmt" betekent "het bereiken van uitmuntendheid" in hun lokale taal en deze reeks wijnen wordt in kleine hoeveelheden gemaakt van 40 jaar oude wijnstokken. Het fruit voor deze krachtige Cabernet Sauvignon is afkomstig van één blok dat direct onder de wijnmakerij in Osoyoos ligt. De druiven worden in oktober geoogst zodra ze volledig rijp zijn en gefermenteerd in roestvrijstalen tanks. De jonge wijn wordt vervolgens overgebracht in Franse en Amerikaanse eikenhouten vaten, waar hij 18 maanden rijpt voordat hij wordt gebotteld.

    Zwarte bessen, cassis en winterkruiden spatten onmiddellijk uit het glas, terwijl de eerste slok een zijdezachte textuur onthult en weelderige smaken van donker fruit die lang op de tong blijven hangen. Het krachtige smaakprofiel en de goed gebouwde structuur zorgen ervoor dat de wijn in de kelder prachtig kan rijpen, hoewel hij nu ook kan worden gedronken bij gerechten als gebarbecuede ribbetjes, kruidig geroosterd lamsvlees, eend en aubergine parmigiana.
