A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Hoewel ze vooral bekend zijn als filmmakers, is wijn maken al generaties lang een traditie in de familie Coppola. Geïnspireerd door zijn grootvader Agostino, die wijn distilleerde in de kelder van zijn appartement in New York, ging Francis Ford Coppola zelf wijn maken.

    In 2006 kocht en renoveerde hij het beroemde Chateau Souverain in Sonoma County, Californië. De Tivoli-tuinen in Kopenhagen dienden als visuele inspiratie, en het gerenoveerde kasteel werd de uitvalsbasis voor de productie van een prachtige reeks levensbevestigende wijnen.

    De Director's Cut serie is een kans voor wijnmakers om hun remmingen los te laten en hun interpretaties van Californische klassiekers te tonen. Vol met geuren van zwart fruit, chocolade kersen, kruiden en een vleugje rook, is deze meerderheid Cabernet Sauvignon blend een feest voor de zintuigen. Hij rijpte 15 maanden in Franse en Amerikaanse eiken vaten, waardoor het gehemelte een hartig randje krijgt. Hij wordt echter gedomineerd door geconcentreerde smaken van bramen en zwarte bessen, met hints van cacao en steranijs. Hij is weelderig en vol, een werkelijk decadente uitdrukking van een Californisch hoofdbestanddeel. De Cabernet Sauvignon wordt gecombineerd met Petite Verdot en kleinere percentages Syrah, Petite Sirah en Cabernet Franc. Hij past perfect bij gerechten met portobello champignons of een ribeye steak.
