A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    COS werd in 1980 opgericht door drie jonge wijnmakers en schoolvrienden, Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano en Giusto Occhipinti. De familiewortels in het zuidoosten van Sicilië maakten dit de ideale plek voor hun nieuwe project, het maken van heerlijke wijnen in harmonie met de natuur. De wijnmakerij gebruikt biodynamische landbouwpraktijken en minimale interventie om de schoonheid van het lokale terroir en de druivensoorten te laten schitteren.

    Deze prachtige Nero d'Avola is gemaakt van 50 jaar oude wijnstokken die geplant zijn op uitstekende kalk- en kleibodems in Bastonaca. De druiven worden zorgvuldig met de hand geoogst en vergist met behulp van wilde gisten die van nature op de druivenschillen en in de lucht voorkomen. De jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 24 maanden in Slavonische eiken vaten, gevolgd door nog eens 2-3 jaar rijping in de fles.

    Barstensvol rijpe cassis, zoethout en kruiden uit de sigarendoos is dit een krachtige en robuuste Siciliaanse rode wijn met een royale volle body, stevige tannines en een lange, gestructureerde afdronk. In de mond zijn er intense tonen van geplette bramen, pruimen en kersen met diepere ondertonen van gedroogde kruiden, gebakken aarde, leer en gerookt vlees dankzij de langere rijping. Een fantastische wijn om nog zo'n tien jaar te bewaren, of om nu van te genieten met vleeswaren, stevige wildgerechten of een ribeye steak.
