    Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Gesteld in Israëls oude Ayalon-vallei, waar de bijbelse figuur Jozua de vijf koningen versloeg, wordt op het Clos de Gat al minstens drieduizend jaar wijn gemaakt, toen de historische wijnpers of "gat" op het landgoed werd gebouwd. Het moderne wijnhuis werd in 1998 opgericht door wijnmaker Eyal Rotem in samenwerking met Maison Sichel, een in Bordeaux gevestigde negociant.

    Rotem bestudeerde de grond op het landgoed zorgvuldig voordat hij hier zijn eerste wijngaarden begon aan te planten, waarbij hij ervoor zorgde dat de variëteiten pasten bij de bodem en de geologische omstandigheden. De regio wordt algemeen beschouwd als een van Israëls topgebieden voor het produceren van wijn, dankzij het uitzonderlijke microklimaat en het kalksteengesteente. Om het natuurlijke karakter van het terroir en de druivensoort te behouden staat Rotem erop wilde gisten te gebruiken voor de gisting en zijn wijnen niet te verfijnen of te filteren.

    Rotem snoeit zijn Merlot wijnstokken waar deze wijn van gemaakt wordt zwaar om een lage opbrengst en een uitstekende kwaliteit fruit te garanderen. De jonge wijn wordt gedurende 14 maanden gefermenteerd in speciaal geïmporteerde Franse eiken vaten, waardoor een rijke, volle rode wijn ontstaat met soepele tannines en intense cassis-, donkere bessen- en chocoladetonen.
