Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Nu drinken of tot 10 jaar bewaren. Niet nodig om te decanteren, maar het beste is om hem een half uur voor het serveren te openen.

    Gelegen in een schilderachtige vallei genaamd Hemel-en-Aarde, is Bouchard Finlayson een van Zuid-Afrika's meest bekroonde boutique wijnhuizen, beroemd over de hele wereld voor de productie van Pinot Noir, Chardonnay en Sauvignon Blanc. De wijngaarden, gelegen op zachte hellingen met een uitstekende ligging, worden omgeven door grote bergen, een adembenemend uitzicht op de oceaan en ongerepte natuur. Hier teelt wijnmaker Chris Albrecht druiven van uitstekende kwaliteit om wijnen vol smaak te produceren.

    Geïnspireerd door Italiaanse wijnen is Hannibal een blend van Sangiovese en Nebbiolo, met toevoegingen van Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Mourvedre en Barbera. De naam is een verwijzing naar de Carthaagse generaal Hannibal, die Italië binnenviel met zijn Afrikaanse olifant, en symboliseert de verbinding tussen de Oude en de Nieuwe Wereld. De druiven worden apart geoogst en gevinifieerd. Na ongeveer een jaar in Frans eiken worden de wijnen gemengd en de blend rust nog eens 3 maanden voordat hij op de markt wordt gebracht.

    De wijn heeft een uniek en complex aromatisch profiel met tonen van rode kersen en hints van leer, viooltjes, zoethout, thee en tabak. In de mond is hij rond en elegant, met een goede structuur en soepele tannines. De afdronk is lang en herinnert aan tonen van tabak. Probeer hem bij medium-pittige visgerechten en sommige Indiase recepten.
