Ik koop hier af en toe iets, omdat ze een aantal van mijn favoriete wijnen hebben die elders moeilijk te vinden zijn. De prijzen zijn redelijk en de verpakking is goed. De enige reden waarom ik geen vijf sterren geef, is dat de leverdatum nooit overeenkomt met de datum die bij het afrekenen wordt aangegeven. Het is altijd een paar dagen later. Neem de leverdatum dus met een korreltje zout.

Geschiedenis

De wijngaarden en het wijnhuis van de familie Hahn liggen in Monterey County, in de Central Coast van Californië, VS. Hier wordt 461 hectare land bebouwd in de regio Arroyo Seco, terwijl nog eens 650 hectare is gewijd aan de Santa Lucia Highlands. Het woord “Hahn” is Duits voor het woord haan, vandaar dat elk etiket van de Hahn wijncollectie dit symbool draagt, maar Hahn Family Wines is verantwoordelijk voor de vertegenwoordiging van andere wijnmerken: Hahn, Hahn SLH, Lucienne, Smith & Hook, en Boneshaker.

Een combinatie van de sterke, koele winden van Monterey Bay die door de in de vallei ontstane tunnel razen en het feit dat de wijngaarden op metamorf gesteente liggen, leiden tot het aanbieden van sterke Pinot Noirs, waarvan er in de loop der jaren veel zijn bekroond. Een van de merken van de Hahn Family Wines, The Boneshaker, is een Zinfandel die bestaat uit de druiven die afkomstig zijn van de 40 jaar oude wijnstokken van de Bruella wijngaard, duurzaam verbouwd door de familie Meler in de Lodi AVA van Californië. De Boneshaker Zinfandel 2014 is samengesteld uit Cabernet Sauvignon (2%), Merlot (11%), en Zinfadel (87%) druiven, om een volle wijn te creëren.
