    Altair is een van de paradepaardjes van Vina San Pedro en wordt algemeen beschouwd als een van de beste rode wijnen van Chili. Vernoemd naar de helderste ster in het sterrenbeeld Aquila, is de wijn ontstaan uit een samenwerking tussen Vina San Pablo en het Grand Cru landgoed van Chateau Dassault in Bordeaux.

    De druiven voor deze prachtige wijn zijn afkomstig van de wijngaarden van Vina San Pedro in Cachapoal, waar de oude vulkanische bodem ideale groeiomstandigheden biedt. De blend bestaat voornamelijk uit Cabernet Sauvignon met een kleiner aandeel Cabernet Franc en Syrah.

    De druiven worden zorgvuldig met de hand geplukt en ondergaan drie kwaliteitsselecties voordat de vinificatie begint. De gisting vindt plaats in temperatuurgecontroleerde roestvrijstalen tanks, gevolgd door rijping in nieuwe en gebruikte Franse eiken vaten gedurende 16 maanden. Nadat de wijn is gebotteld rijpt hij nog een jaar in de wijnmakerij voordat hij definitief wordt vrijgegeven. Het resultaat is een serieuze rode wijn met stevige tannines, een volle body en rijke smaken van donker fruit die lang in de mond blijven hangen. Altair is een mooie toevoeging aan de kelder van elke verzamelaar en zal de komende tien jaar prachtig rijpen.
