Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Mount Langi Ghiran is een van de meest geïsoleerde wijnmakerijen van Australië met een prachtige ligging in de Great Dividing Range in de Grampians regio van Victoria. Het wijnhuis heeft een uniek microklimaat, waardoor de wijngaarden als laatste in Australië rijpen. De warme, zonnige zomerdagen worden getemperd door koele nachten, wat helpt om uitzonderlijk elegante en sierlijke Shiraz-wijnen te produceren met intens en geconcentreerd donker fruitkarakter.

    Hun Cliff Edge Shiraz wordt gemaakt van geselecteerde wijngaardpercelen die zijn beplant met oude wijnstokken op granieten zandgronden. Om ervoor te zorgen dat het fruit in goede conditie bij de wijnmakerij aankomt, wordt de helft van de oogst met de hand geplukt en de rest machinaal. Eenmaal in de wijnmakerij laat men de most 2 weken op de schillen macereren en gisten. Een deel van de druiven ondergaat zelfs de traditionele praktijk van voetstappen om tannines, kleur en aroma's voorzichtig los te maken van de schillen. De jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens 14 maanden in Franse eikenhouten vaten.

    Deze manier van wijnmaken helpt om de schoonheid van de koelklimaat Shiraz-druiven volledig tot zijn recht te laten komen, waardoor een krachtige maar evenwichtige wijn ontstaat die barst van de zwarte kersen, bramen, pruimen en kruidige tonen. In de mond is er een royale volle body, verfijnde tannines en een lange afdronk met aanhoudende hints van houtrook en leer. Een geweldige wijn om nog een paar jaar te bewaren of om nu van te genieten bij een rijk gerecht van wild of rundvlees.
