Herdade do Mouchao is een historisch wijnhuis in de Portugese regio Alentejo dat gespecialiseerd is in het maken van uitstekende rode wijnen van de plaatselijke Alicante Bouschet druif. De wortels van het landgoed gaan terug tot de 19e eeuw, toen Thomas Reynolds voor het eerst van Porto naar Alentejo verhuisde om in de welvarende kurkindustrie te stappen. Later zag zijn kleinzoon, John Reynolds, een kans om zowel wijn als kurken te gaan maken en kocht het 900 hectare grote landgoed Herdade do Mouchao.

Helaas werd het landgoed in 1974 in beslag genomen op last van de machtige militaire regering die toen over het land heerste. De Reynolds konden het landgoed pas in 1985 terugkrijgen en tegenwoordig bewerkt de familie ongeveer 38 hectare wijngaard.

Deze weelderige, sappige rode wijn is het jongere broertje van hun vlaggenschip Tinto, gemaakt in een lichtere en meer toegankelijke stijl. De blend bestaat uit Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca en Shiraz druiven afkomstig van eigen wijngaarden. Zoals gebruikelijk in de regio worden de druiven te voet in grote open stenen lagares of troggen getrost en daar achtergelaten om te gisten. De jonge wijn rijpt vervolgens in een combinatie van tropische hardhouten vaten en kleinere vaten en wordt 18-24 maanden na de oogst gebotteld.
