    Geschiedenis

    De naam "Matua" betekent "hoofd van de familie" in de oorspronkelijke Maori-taal van Nieuw-Zeeland, wat toepasselijk is gezien het feit dat het wijnhuis al in 1974 de eerste Sauvignon Blanc van het land maakte. Het wijnhuis werd oorspronkelijk opgericht in een bescheiden blikken schuurtje door twee broers, Bill en Ross Spence, die een visie hadden om Nieuw-Zeelandse wijn te maken die wereldwijd kon concurreren. Ze worden nu erkend als een van de belangrijkste producenten van het land, met een breed scala aan bekroonde wijnen.
