Een onvergetelijke verjaardag met DAOU & Colomé Het vieren van mijn moeders verjaardag werd nog specialer dankzij twee ongelooflijke wijnen - DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 en Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. De ster van de avond was ongetwijfeld de DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. Vanaf de eerste slok werden we omarmd door een rijke, fluweelzachte smaak. De diepe aroma's van donker fruit, hints van cacao en perfect gebalanceerd eikenhout zorgden ervoor dat elk glas aanvoelde als een ware verwennerij. Hij was gedurfd en toch elegant, een wijn die moeiteloos warmte en vreugde bracht aan onze bijeenkomst. Toen ik mijn moeder elke slok met een glimlach zag proeven, was het des te gedenkwaardiger. De Colomé Auténtico Malbec leverde ook prachtig, met zijn pure expressie van hooggelegen Malbec. Hij was krachtig, met rijpe bramen, kruiden en een zachte, aanhoudende afdronk - een uitstekende aanvulling op de avond. Deze wijnen versterkten niet alleen onze maaltijd; ze werden een deel van de viering, waardoor elke toast en elk gesprek een hoogtepunt werd. Hartelijk dank aan DAOU en Colomé voor het onvergetelijk maken van deze speciale gelegenheid!

    A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Vangelis, oprichter en eigenaar van Ktima Gerovassiliou, is een meester in inheemse Griekse druiven. Niet alleen heeft hij tijdens zijn werk op het landgoed Porto Carras het bijna uitgestorven ras Malagousia teruggevonden, maar hij verbouwt ook andere inheemse rassen op zijn landgoed, zoals de populaire Assyrtiko, maar ook Limnio, Mavroudi en Mavrotragano. Van deze mengsels, verbouwd in het Epanomi wijngebied, maakt Vangelis wijnen van hoge kwaliteit en enorme elegantie. In de loop der jaren heeft Vangelis ook andere wijnprojecten in Griekenland en in het buitenland ondernomen.

    Ktima Gerovassiliou's Avaton is een interessante blend van drie lokale rode rassen: Limnio, Mavroudi en Mavrotragano. Limnio, die in dit mengsel overheerst, is de oudste Griekse druif, waarvan de eerste getuigenissen teruggaan tot de 5e eeuw voor Christus. Na de oogst en een extractiefase vinden de fermentaties (alcoholisch en malolactisch) plaats in speciale Bourgondische eikenhouten vaten. De afgewerkte wijn rijpt vervolgens in Franse eikenhouten vaten.

    De kleur is rood, intens en helder. Het geurprofiel vertoont aroma's van rijpe frambozen, rozijnen en ander rood fruit, gevolgd door delicate tonen van zoete kruiden en koffie. In de mond zijn er gulle fruitige smaken en zachte tannines. Over het geheel genomen heeft de wijn een goede body, veel karakter en een uitstekende balans. Uitstekend bij vleesgerechten, geit en wild.
