Het aankoopproces en de productkeuze zijn goed, maar de bezorgservice met UPS is ellendig. Ik zal helaas niet meer kopen vanwege de bezorging door UPS die zich nooit aan datum/tijd houdt en een vals excuus geeft dat ze afwezig zijn terwijl ik er was en een vrije dag heb genomen om er te zijn.

    Gevestigd in de kleine nederzetting Bonny Doon in de Santa Cruz Mountains, is dit een van de belangrijkste wijnhuizen van Californië dankzij hun pionierswerk om Rhônedruiven in de Verenigde Staten populair te maken. Maverick wijnmaker Randall Grahm werd na zijn studie filosofie verliefd op wijn en besloot een diploma wijnbouw te halen aan de UC Davis. In 1983 richtte hij Bonny Doon op, dat een referentiepunt is geworden voor wijnen met minimale interventie, gemaakt van Rhôneferries op Californisch topterroir.

    Le Cigare Volant is het vlaggenschip van Bonny Doon en ontleent zijn naam aan een ongebruikelijk decreet dat UFO's verbood te landen in de wijngaarden, dat in 1954 werd uitgevaardigd door de plaatselijke dorpsraad in Chateauneuf du Pape. De wijn is gemaakt van Grenache, Syrah met een koel klimaat en 100 jaar oude Mourvedre wijnstokken in Contra Costa County. In de blend zit ook wat Cinsault van 120 jaar oude wijnstokken.

    Vurige tonen van geplette donkere bessen, zoethout en kruiden bepalen de neus, terwijl de eerste slok een volle body, stevige tannines en intense cassis, framboos en gedroogd fruit smaken onthult. De afdronk is lang en rijk met tonen van donker fruit, houtrook en gedroogde kruiden. Een geweldige wijn om te combineren met stevige rode vleesgerechten.
