De belangrijkste Sloveense wijngebieden
De grootste Sloveense wijnregio is Podravje, aan de oostgrens van het land met Kroatië en Hongarije. Witte wijnen zijn goed voor 97% van de totale productie van de regio, en Podravje is vooral bekend om zijn mousserende en dessertwijnen van hoge kwaliteit. Posavska, in het zuidoosten van Slovenië, is de kleinste regio en staat bekend om zijn lichtrode blends met de naam Cvicek. De andere grote regio is Primorska, in het westen van Slovenië, dat sterk beïnvloed is door buurland Italië.
Sloveense druivenrassen
De belangrijkste witte wijnrassen zijn Istrische malvasia, rebula, in Italië ook wel Ribolla Gialla genoemd, en furmint. Sloveense witte wijnen zijn over het algemeen elegant en verfrissend, met veel zuren, hoewel Furmint ook wordt gebruikt om intense en weelderige dessertwijnen te produceren. Voor rode wijnen is het kleurrijke ras Refosco populair, evenals Zametovka, de op één na meest aangeplante zwarte druif, die traditioneel wordt gebruikt om Cvicek te maken. Sloveense wijnen passen goed bij gerookt en gezouten vlees, varkensvlees en gegrilde visgerechten.
